Dr. Semper's practice is comprised of medication evaluations and management, psychotherapy, and combinations thereof. With all clients, he uses a biopsychosocial formulation to understand the individual's current clinical situation. A thorough evaluation of not only the biological underpinnings of current symptoms, but also psychological and social contributions is done both in the initial appointment and over time. While his therapeutic approach can best be described as integrative, drawing from a number of different treatment modalities such as cognitive, behavioral, supportive, and psychodynamic, he is a strong believer in evidence-based care, i.e. treatments that have scientific research to back up their efficacy. He is an active therapist, believing that therapy is a collaborative process between client and doctor. It is not uncommon for between-session homework assignments to be given, so that the therapeutic process continues throughout the week/s.
Dr. Semper graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska in 1995, and completed residency training in General Psychiatry at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center (now known as Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center) in Phoenix, Arizona in 1998. After moving to Seattle, he began a two-year fellowship program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Washington, and was Chief Resident in his second year. Since completion of formal training, he has worked as an Emergency Room psychiatrist at Maricopa County Hospital and as a faculty psychiatrist at the University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital. Currently, he is in full-time private practice. While Dr.Semper's office is located at Associates in Behavioral Health, he is an independent practitioner and is solely responsible for the psychiatric services he provides.
