My therapeutic approach can be best described as integrative, in that I draw from various psychological theories and processes to tailor treatment to your unique needs. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process in which we will work together to clarify presenting concerns and set reasonable goals in order to determine the best treatment plan for you. Together, we will explore patterns of thinking and behavior and the role they may play in your current circumstances. This approach promotes increased self-awareness and an understanding of the impact of such patterns on your emotional experience and overall functioning. These insights can help you discover a new perspective of your circumstances and what is needed to lead a more fulfilling life. Lastly, I believe that psychotherapy is most effective when you bring an attitude of collaboration, openness, and willingness to invest time and effort in and out of session. To the greatest extent possible, I utilize techniques that are supported by scientific research and are culturally appropriate.
I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine from the University of North Texas in 2014. My graduate training involved a joint clinical preceptorship at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center and the John Peter Smith Hospital, both in Fort Worth, Texas. I also completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, Texas, where I worked with military Veterans in the general mental health clinic, an inpatient trauma-focused program, and specialized medical settings (e.g., primary care clinics, health promotion disease prevention program, spinal cord injury unit, polytrauma and rehabilitation service, and chronic pain management clinic).
Following graduation, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Primary Care-Mental Health Integration within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, with additional training in PTSD treatments with Veterans living in rural areas via the VA’s Telemental Health Program. Cumulatively, these training experiences have led to proficiencies in both psychological assessment and psychotherapy.
